Men-Tsee-Khang Tibetial Medical & Astro Institute

About us

Men-Tsee-Khang, the Tibetan Medical and Astro Institute in Exile, is the premier institution dedicated to the preservation and promotion of the traditional Tibetan system of medicine and astrology. Founded in 1961 by His Holiness the 14th Dalai Lama, Men-Tsee-Khang operates in Dharamshala, India, after the Chinese occupation of Tibet forced the relocation of many Tibetan institutions.

The institute plays a crucial role in ensuring the survival of Tibetan medicine, known as Sowa Rigpa, and Tibetan astrology, which are integral parts of Tibetan culture and spirituality. Men-Tsee-Khang offers comprehensive education and training in these fields, providing healthcare services through clinics across India and internationally. The institute also focuses on research and development to adapt traditional Tibetan medicine to modern health challenges.

Men-Tsee-Khang’s work is not only about preserving Tibetan culture but also about providing holistic healthcare that integrates body, mind, and spirit, aligning with the broader humanitarian and compassionate goals of Tibetan Buddhism.
